Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday extended the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar information to June 30. The deadline had been set for March 31 earlier.
The order said that the deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking for filing I-T returns is being extended after “consideration of the matter”. This is the fourth such extension.
The latest order from CBDT has come after the Supreme Court, earlier this month, directed the extension of the March 31 deadline for linking Aadhaar with various other services.
This is a fourth extension given by the government for individuals to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) with their Aadhaar.
The ministry stated that under the provisions of recently introduced section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961, with effect from 01.07.2017, all taxpayers having Aadhaar Number or Enrolment Number are required to link the same with Permanent Account Number.
