An another budget phone is launched in India from the house of Xiaomi and it is expected to gain huge market share. On Tuesday, Xiaomi launched a successor to the Redmi 3S, calling it simply the Redmi 4. The Redmi 4 borrows heavily from the Redmi 3S in almost all the major departments.
Its the latest smartphone in the sub 10k category, although there’s 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant that costs a little over 10k. There are three models—2GB RAM/16GB storage, 3GB RAM/32GB storage and 4GB RAM/64GB storage At Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively.
The device comes with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset which is not a whole lot different from Snapdragon 430 found on Redmi 3S or 3S Prime. The Snapdragon 435 is an Octa-Core chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz and is paired with the same Adreno 505 GPU.
The Redmi 4 comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD HD (720p) display and a pixel density of 294 ppi. It has a 2.5D curved glass on top, which is said to be protected by an unspecified display glass. The 5-inch display looks bright, crisp and produces vivid colours.
It comes with a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and an LED flash. It has a 5MP front camera with f/2.2 aperture on the front.
The PDAF (Phase Detection Autofocus) results in speedy autofocus and the image processing is also snappy.
You can save a separate fingerprint password for two or more profiles and the device will automatically recognise a particular fingerprint scanner and login to the respective profile. Apart from this, MIUI will not give you an app drawer rather your apps will be lined up in pages right on your homescreen. For the bloatware, MIUI does come with some Mi apps and some third party apps like Amazon Kindle, Facebook, WPS Office. Fortunately, the latter can be uninstalled while the former, presumably, cannot be removed. Another downside with MIUI is the amount of time it takes for the first boot.
