The July 31 deadline for filing of income tax returns has been extended further by the Central Government.

The foremost reason behind this extension is likely to be difficulties faced by taxpayers this year in wake of requirement to link the Aadhar with the Pan Card to file income tax returns.
Amid reports of e-filing website facing some glitches, the government has extended the last date for filing of income tax returns (ITRs) for the financial year 2016-17.
The new deadline for filing the return has been set as August 5.
The officials said that the decision was taken because the tax department’s e-filing website has been experiencing overload.
Earlier the reports suggested that the last date for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the financial year 2016-17 will not be extended beyond today’s deadline, a top official was quoted as saying.
