As per a Reuters report, now it is possible to decrypt files of a system infected by “WannaCry” ransomware.
WannaCry, which started to sweep round the globe last Friday and has infected more than 300,000 computers in 150 nations, threatens to lock out victims who have not paid a sum of $300 to $600 within one week of infection.
Now, a researcher named Adrien Guinet came up with a way to decrypt encrypted files due to a subtle flaw in the WannaCry code.
For anyone with a machine compromised by WannaCry, Guinet stresses that users should not reboot their machine. Otherwise, the fix might not work. The software fix is dubbed ‘wannakiwi’ and can be downloaded over here.
You just need to download the tool and run it on the infected machine. Default settings should work. The tool has been successfully tested with both Windows XP and Windows 7. As per Kaspersky lab, 98% of all machines hit by WannaCry were running an iteration of Windows 7, with barely any running Windows XP.
