Mukesh Bansal and Ankit Nagori, who are among the most powerful executives at Flipkart Ltd, have resigned to start their own ventures, leaving co-founder Binny Bansal firmly in control of India’s largest e-commerce company.
Mukesh Bansal has resigned as head of commerce and advertising business at Flipkart whereas Ankit Nagori has resigned as Chief business officer.
The surprising departures of Mukesh Bansal and Nagori follow a restructuring undertaken by Flipkart in January when the company named Binny as its new chief executive officer (CEO), replacing Sachin.
Mukesh Bansal’s departure is the most high-profile exit yet for Flipkart, which is locked in a fierce rivalry with Amazon and Snapdeal for dominance in India’s online retail industry. A graduate of IIT-Kanpur, he was instrumental in hiring top talent from Silicon Valley and was at one time rumoured to be in contention for the job of CEO.
